Return to list
They found themselves next to the bois de Boulogne, a huge wooded park which formed the western extremity of the city. A quiet road led them
around the hippodrome d'Auteuil, one of the park's main attractions, along with enclosed flower gardens, a lake
with a flotilla of rowboats for hire, and countless facilities for distracting children. The other things for which the bois de Boulogne
was notorious were less salutary, particularly its flourishing trade in prostitution.
