Hard-Hearted

She was sitting outside a cramped café-restaurant in place Dauphine. Despite lying literally in the heart of the city, on the Ile de la Cité itself, its triangular form rendered it largely invisible to passers-by. Although hordes crowded the neighbouring Pont Neuf, few ever strayed into the square. It provided a haven of peace to its residents and those who frequented the central court building at its eastern end.
