Hard-Hearted

The entrance to 4 rue Delambre was right next to the fish shop associated with the Le Dôme, one of Montparnasse’s famous brasseries. A wide window piled high with rose-tinted flesh and seaweed-flecked shellfish was only one of the means by which it announced its presence – the odour it projected up and down the street was quite capable of alerting the least attentive of passers-by. Quite how popular the shop was with the inhabitants of the apartment building that rose above it, Franck could only wonder.
