rue de Meaux
Return to list
She had summoned him to a run-down café on rue de Meaux in the city’s north-eastern corner near the Buttes Chaumont park. He had not bothered to ask why she had chosen the nineteenth arrondissement. No doubt she had an operation underway. The reason she had opted for this particular establishment, though, was obvious – in a concerted act of civil disobedience, everybody inside it was smoking, including the ill-tempered owner standing behind the counter. He had scowled at Franck’s request for a coffee, resenting being forced to break his established rhythm of swivelling from the beer pump to the cash register and back again.
