A museum could be found at the furthest end of Bercy’s cobbled streets. An unusual one at that, since unlike the hundred and thirty or so others the city could boast, it played hard to get. The Musée des Arts Forains, home to a collection of fairground rides and attractions dating for the most part from the very early twentieth century, catered above all to the corporate market, fetching hefty sums from companies who hired it to provide an unusual backdrop or ludic distraction for their annual meetings, team-building exercises and corporate get-togethers. Franck assumed it cost a little less to hire for a photo shoot, if only because of the publicity value of page after glossy page of edgily dressed and extravagantly made-up young women draped upon and around its wooden horses, swings and carousels.
